High Peak School is a residential school, with boarding available 52 weeks a year, for children and young people aged 9-18 and for whom mainstream education has not met their individual needs. The school is set on the border of Cheshire East and the Peak District and provides residential education for children with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, individuals on the autism spectrum and young people with ADHD, dyspraxia and dyslexia.
We are based in a specially-converted former hotel with 80 acres of land and offer a range of facilities rarely found in specialist educational settings. As well as traditional classrooms, including specialist teaching areas for design technology, science, art and two specialist ICT suites, there are a range of sporting and recreation facilities including dance and drama spaces, swimming pool, gym, squash and tennis courts, football pitches and others. There are also vocational learning areas such as a beauty therapy, hairdressing and childcare.
The curriculum at the school is designed to take each individual child’s own educational needs into account and maximise their opportunities for success. Children and young people enjoy access to an extensive range of imaginative learning opportunities which capture and sustain their interest such as equine assisted learning, bush craft and music studio work. We also offer a range of qualifications including functional Skills, GCSE’s and ASDAN Work Preparation and Employability Qualifications.
The clinical team includes a speech and language therapist, occupational therapist, nurse and an educational psychologist. The team is trained to deliver trauma therapies EMDR and (trauma focused) CBT, attachment based therapies dyadic developmental psychotherapy and therapy and draw upon newer emerging approaches for this population such as Dialectical Behavioural Therapy.

At High Peak School we use Sleuth to analyse and record behaviour and development of our pupils. This software sits alongside our own assessment framework that can measure the progress of our pupils in relation to the essential skills.
