It’s been more than 15 years since Kedleston was “born”. Developed by Paul Brosnan and Tony Hurran, the vision was simple; to provide high quality schooling and care environments for the children the traditional system does not work for. Our early ethos (which continues today) was one of mutual collaboration and hard work between staff, pupils and other stakeholders.

We began by acquiring a majority stake-holding at Wings School Cumbria where Paul and Tony worked with the team there to substantially improve the facilities. This included developing a state-of-the-art gymnasium to nurture the considerable talents of the school’s many very able sportsmen and sportswomen - as it continues to do today.

As demand for the quality services provided by Kedleston grew, so did our group. We now have 17 schools and homes across England, some of which were developed as completely new bespoke provisions. Others were acquired by the group as early-stage developments from founders who shared the same ethos.

Today, we have over 600 employees, whom have considerable industry expertise and are at the forefront of innovative teaching and care support. The Group also benefits from highly skilled clinical teams. Our Governance, Recruitment, HR, Quality and other teams also provide a support framework for the schools, allowing them to concentrate on the children.

More than 500 children are currently educated and cared for by Kedleston. Each is supported to be very much their own person, with their own individual needs met. Although we recognise each child is perfectly unique, we specialise in supporting children with social, emotional and mental health difficulties and those with an autism spectrum condition.

We have an enviable reputation for positively challenging children to achieve as much as they can in life.  These achievements include educational trips which have included Trekking in Nepal, Skiing in Snowy Valley, Canada and walking the poignant battle fields of the Somme to name but a few.

We are always highly ambitious for our children and know that achievement for each child is something which is individually measured. Helping young people achieve their potential remains our focus now as it was when we began.

Paul still leads the organisation today and will often be seen sitting with children in school asking them about their learning, their sporting activities, achievements of the school and their plans for the future.
