The day started with a 40 minute presentation about The Army, specifically what it has offer in terms of career opportunities and all the different aspects of being a soldier. It gave the young people the opportunity to ask questions and find out more about a potential career within the armed forces.
Following this everyone went out to the grounds of the school where there were different activity sections set up, the staff and young people were split up into groups and sent to their individual areas.
They covered things such as: observation skills, cooking in the field, basher/den building, and camouflage. Each group spent time in each section before moving round to try the next one.
The day finished with a huge game of hide and seek, stating with the Army soldiers hiding around the school grounds. After some time each soldier was found around the woodlands towards the back of the sports hall. Then it was time for the young people of Wings Notts versus The Army! The young people loved this activity and one young man even managed to evade capture! He was very proud of himself and received a prize at the end.
Feedback from both the staff and the young people was excellent and they are due to set up a similar day in February half term.
What a fantastic opportunity.
