We are currently recruiting for a SENCO to work in our Wings School in Cumbria. Wings Cumbria is an expanding Independent Special School for young people with SEMH issues. With the school growing an opportunity has presented itself to appoint a SENCO to enhance the experiences of the pupils and contribute to staff development.
Key roles and responsibilities:
To lead and manage Special Educational Needs & Disability area within the school in accordance with the published SEN policy and the 2014 SEND Code of Practice: 0–25 years.
Responsible for coordinating learning support workers, and liaising with relevant staff, external agencies and carers/parents.
To develop, with the support of the education team and other colleagues, effective ways of overcoming barriers to learning to maximize the outcomes for Wings School children
To ensure an effective learning environment and support other staff in the implementation of positive behaviour management
To proactively liaise with other relevant institutions in planning referrals and reintegration programmes
To contribute to the in-service training of staff
You should have experience of:
- Teaching either at KS2, 3 or 4
- Qualified teacher with at least four years experience
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Evidence of work with colleagues in primary, secondary or special schools
- Experience of training or supporting other teachers
- Experience of working alongside other teachers in their development and learning
- Experience of setting targets and monitoring, evaluating and recording progress
