Deputy Headteacher

North Cheam, Sutton

Salary - Outer London Leadership Scale L7 – L11 (negotiable dependant on experience/excellence)

We are currently recruiting for a Deputy Headteacher (preferably able to teach Maths or English to GCSE level) aspiring to headship to work in our in our independent day school, Brookways, based in Cheam, Greater London. Brookways is an independent special school for children with autism and additional special educational needs and mental health challenges. Our young people have struggled in mainstream education and need a positive experience. Brookways is a new school rated Good with Outsanding in its first Ofsted last year. This is an exciting time to join and lead a growing team and an innovative school.

Key roles and responsibilities:

  • To deputise for the Head Teacher when s/he is off site
  • Strategic leadership and management
  • Leadership and management of students’ attainment and progress
  • Leadership and management of staff
  • Leadership and management of the curriculum
  • Leadership of learning and teaching and behaviour for learning
  • Financial and resources leadership and management through the SLT
  • Management of resources and premises
  • Leadership and management of the school within its community
  • Be the deputy safeguarding lead


Person Specification:

  • An aspiring Head Teacher
  • Experience of the operational management of a school
  • Substantial experience of working in a special school or having a leadership role in the field of special education
  • Experience of contributing to successful Ofsted Inspections
  • Track record in supporting sustainable outcomes for young people with Autism and complex needs.  
  • Experience of performance management and supporting the continuing professional development of colleagues
  • An outstanding teacher with an excellent knowledge of the specialist curriculum area and how it may be effectively taught
  • Degree
  • QTS
