How do we provide students with information about course choices and careers?
* the wider curriculum aims to equip students with the knowledge, skills and experiences necessary to succeed in the world of work through range of activities related to economic well-being. Our bespoke ‘Living Life Well’ programme.
* General advice and guidance about pathways and specific career demands is provided by tutors and Hannah Lovegrove, Assistant Headteacher once the child is settled and engaged in year 10.
* Specific guidance on progression routes will be organised with our local college, South Thames College in Merton.
Activities and trips:
Our aim is to prepare the students to live independently after leaving Brookways. We organise activities and trips to further students’ knowledge of how to access careers information and opportunities.
Learning Outside the Classroom (LOTC), Living Life Well and social skills are integral to the KS3 curriculum and help students make links between classroom skills and the wider world.
Experience of the workplace:
It is our aim that students get the chance to experience the world of work before embarking on a post-16 programme. If a child is socially and emotionally ready, we will organise this either inside (a placement in the kitchen or office) or outside of school. We are in the process of building excellent links with the community, local businesses and post-16 provisions.
National Careers Service is a new government-funded organisation providing information, advice and guidance for individuals making decisions about learning, training and work opportunities.
