Leaways School is situated in Clapton, East London and provides education for students aged seven to 17 years, who have social, emotional and behavioural problems with or without mental health issues. Leaways School supports students who are not able to attend a main stream school at a certain time in their life. Children and young people come to Leaways School for a number of reasons. Some of which are associated with young people struggling with the challenges of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, opposition defiance disorder, conduct disorder or foetal alcohol syndrome.
The ASC Provision
The school also boasts a separate specialist schooling provision for pupils who are on the autistic spectrum. This specialist ASC friendly provision is separated from the main school, with its own entrance and is decorated throughout with calm, low arousal colours. The ASC provision offers smaller classroom sizes, sensory friendly changeable lighting and soundproofed walls in order to enhance the low arousal environment in which students can learn.
