The team from Leaways School’s specialist autism spectrum condition provision, The ARC, enjoyed an evening celebrating excellence in autism at a prestigious awards event.
The ARC has been named as a finalist for an award at the UK Autism Hero Awards in the Outstanding Achievement in Education category. They had been chosen from hundreds of entries into the awards after having been nominated by the parents of a pupil.
While the ARC wasn’t named as the overall winner, it was one of the top three entries into the category and received a certificate to mark their great achievement.
The UK Autism Hero Awards were created by the Anna Kennedy Online Charity as an opportunity to showcase and celebrate the excellence taking place in the world of Autism. They are a unique opportunity to celebrate and showcase accomplishments as well as enhancing Autism awareness and acceptance. On the evening the awards were presented by Anna Kennedy and actress Kacey Ainsworth (better known as ‘little Mo’ from Eastenders).
Guests on the evening were also treated to a live performance of ‘Hero’ from Heather Small of M People!
Mel Whitfield, previously of ARC and now Head Teacher at Kedleston’s new specialist ASC school, Brookways, said: “The whole evening was inspirational for us and we were made to feel very special.”
The awards seek to acknowledge the outstanding contributions and achievements of individuals, teams and organisations who have proved excellence, dedication and commitments to impacting lives that have been making a real difference.
