Senior pupils from Leaways have been taking part in an extended work experience programme.
The Year 10 and Year 9 students are attending a variety of placements for a minimum of two hours a day for a nine week period and their feedback has been overwhelmingly positive about what they have learned and achieved.
Work experience is a vital tool in supporting students to understand what working life is like and supporting them with regard to their choices after Leaways. The students have appreciated this opportunity and there have been a number of stand-out successes among the cohort.
The managera local restaurant where one pupil was working was so impressed by him that she extended his hours and has discussed the possibility of an apprenticeship with them, if he wanted to apply when he leaves school.
One Year 9 student has been described by the manager of the bike repair business where he is working as "incredibly talented" and his placement has been extended until the end of the school year.
Two Year 10s have impressed oung Hackney so much that they have had their day extended and are now working as Sports Leaders in local primary schools.
Well done to everyone for their hard work and determination to make their placements a success!
Year 9 will begin the process of preparing for work experience this term with a series of workshops and a careers interview to help them begin to think about their options post-16.
Students currently on work experience are also going to be involved in supporting Year 9 to make their decisions and understand what they will learn from the whole process.
