Kedleston Group are proud to announce the launch of Arc Oakbridge School, a specialist school providing education and support for boys and girls who are on the autism spectrum and who may have complex needs.
Building work is underway and we are anticipating that the doors will open to its first pupils in September 2018. The team, led by Head Teacher Phil Petch, can currently undertake assessments and are meeting with prospective pupils, parents and commissioners.
As builders are busy creating our fantastic new school environment, we’re not able to invite visitors on site currently. However, the team would be delighted to meet with interested commissioners and parents to chat about how the school will look and feel, the facilities it will offer and its ethos and aims.
More about Arc Oakbridge School
The independent specialist school will be able to offer places to children with autism, including Asperger’s Syndrome, higher functioning autism, social emotional and mental health issues, moderate learning difficulties, ADHD and other challenges. The school will support young people for whom other education environments have not been able to meet their needs.
Led by Head Teacher Phil Petch, Arc Oakbridge School will provide a vibrant learning space for children aged seven to 17. Phil and his leadership team will ultimately support up to 42 children at the school.
Additional therapeutic support will be available “in-house” including occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, educational psychology and therapeutic arts.
More about the Arc Oakbridge School environment and learning
The Arc Oakbridge School learning environment is being completely refurbished to create a calm and welcoming environment which takes into account the sensory and other needs of the children learning there. These enabling environments will see the use of muted colour schemes, specialist lighting, individual work stations and visual communication.
Classes will be small and the curriculum, broadly following the National Curriculum, will be tailored to individual needs and interests, but with a focus on supporting children to achieve meaningful qualifications and learning skills to support life outside of school and to move into further education and work.
Social and communication skills will be embedded in the curriculum with timetabled lessons focusing on social skills, turn taking, listening and responding.
Major refurbishment work at the school has begun and is set to complete towards the end of the Summer. The school has applied for Ofsted registration and whilst the application proceeds, referrals and assessments are being accepted and arranged now.
