Swan House at Wings Cumbria provides a Post-16 residential provision with individually tailored support. The home sleeps six young people in their own, personalised bedrooms with newly refurbished and decorated communal living spaces. Staff are trained to support young people integrating from a school setting in to a semi-supported residential setting.
Young people living at Swan are supported to make choices relating to education and training by developing strong links with the local college, work experience placements and training providers. Young people are taught to understand their physical, mental and sexual well being and are encouraged to take part in the local community through integrated activities. Independent travel, shopping and real life experiences associated with running a home are promoted to all the young people living at Swan House.
There is an emphasis on maximising individual potential to provide each student with strategies to successfully transcend into adult life. The range of activities and services young people can access is increased to help develop their confidence.
The young people at Swan can be assured of discrete adult support in home and college life to develop self-help and independence skills. There is ample opportunity for students to gain qualifications to support their future education (functional skills) and, where appropriate, employment.
