Pupils at our specialist school in Cumbria have been celebrating their recent exam results.
Students at Wings School Cumbria undertook a range of exams including GCSEs and Functional Skills and achieved more than 80 qualifications across core subjects including Maths, English, Science as well as Photography and Art. Each student achieved an average of six formal qualifications and 100% of students from the school will go on to undertake further education, employment or training.
Other qualifications achieved by students included BTEC Sports, Equine Studies, Construction Level 1 Skills for Employment, John Muir Explorer and Discovery Award and Catering.
Wings School Cumbria Principal Donagh McKillop said: "Many of the young people who attend Wings School Cumbria have previously found learning extremely difficult in mainstream environments and often have had very disrupted educational lives.
“Our role here is to provide a range of opportunities for them to succeed in as wide a variety of qualifications as possible – not just academically, but vocationally also. The results we’ve seen the young people achieve give them a fantastic foundation on which to build their future successes outside of school as they move into further education, training or employment – as all of our young people are.
“Every young person is also leaving with a formal qualification in English and mathematics alongside the range of others they have achieved. We are extremely proud of the young people. Their results are the product of their resilience, determination, hard work and commitment.”
