A medal-winning staff member has shown pupils at Wings School Nottingham the importance of focus, dedication and hard work!
Emily Campbell, Pastoral Care and Learning Support Assistant at the school, has already experienced success as a weightlifter at both England and National level and earlier this year lifted a Bronze medal in the +90kg category at the 2018 Commonwealth Games held on Australia’s Gold Coast.
Emily lifted 103kg in the snatch and 139kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 242kg. That left her just a kilogram adrift of second place. Her medal was the sixth the British weightlifting won in the Games.
Emily started weightlifting just two years ago and is over the moon that it brought her to Commonwealth success.
She discovered her talent when studying Sport Science at university and was doing athletics. She asked a coach for some help getting stronger for the shot-put event and through this discovered she had a talent for weightlifting.
From this success Emily hopes to go on to compete in the 2020 Olympic Games being held in Tokyo, Japan as well as the World Championships in Turkmenistan in December 2018.
Well done from everyone at Kedleston Emily!
