Our Clinical Lead, Dr Vicky Horwood (see above) describes the supportive approaches used with young people at Wings Notts.....
"At Wings school Notts our ultimate goal is to promote the social, emotional and psychological wellbeing of our children and young people. We want to support our children to achieve in education, partake in social activities, and have positive relationships and to feel empowered and supported to take care of themselves physically and emotionally as they make the transition towards independent living.
A number of our children and young people may not have had the best start in life and might be experiencing ongoing difficulties as a result of their early life and exposure to high levels of stress. In order to meet the complex needs of this group of young people we have developed a multi-disciplinary team with professionals from a range of clinical backgrounds.
We aim to be an effective service that can evidence outcomes. This is reflected through indicators such as; a reduction in Restrictive Physical Interventions, higher job satisfaction for staff and positive feedback from the young people who live with us.
The new onsite therapeutic and transition house ‘The Bothy’ has recently been refurbished and is now up and running.
‘The Bothy’ is specifically aimed at providing bespoke therapeutic packages for the young people we serve. This will focus on supporting the young people’s transition, life skills and their everyday functioning. These will be delivered on a one to one or group basis. This provision will be firmly embedded into the school day within the timetable."
