Sarah* joined Mill School Bury in July, having previously being a non-attender at school due to her high levels of anxiety and low self-esteem. Her previous provision was too busy, too loud and too chaotic for her and left her unable to access education.

Since joining, Sarah has increased her attendance and enjoys coming to school where she can take comfort in knowing that the environment is calm, quiet and safe. Sarah utilises the Sensory Rooms and Rebound Therapy to support her in regulating throughout the school day. She is able to attend all lessons and has even become a School Ambassador who leads the Mill School Bury School Council.

Sarah has worked with Healthy Young Minds over much of her teenage years, however, her biggest achievement came after attending Mill School for just 4 months where she felt able to come off her anxiety medication due to her finally feeling calm and settled in education. The school worked collaboratively with HYM, parents and Social Workers to support Sarah in this change over a period of time.

Sarah continues to surpass her milestone as she develops friendships, makes accelerated progress with her learning and has begun to sign up to more responsibilities in school!
