Our Silverways School in Enfield recently welcomed in Feryal Clark (MP for Enfield North and Shadow Minister for Primary Care and Patient Safety), Rico Thai-Richards and our CEO Paul Brosnan alongside other local professionals.
Silverways school is a safe learning environment for children with autism and other associated needs.
Feryal was delighted to visit the school and thoroughly enjoyed the tour around the new school led by some of the enthusiastic pupils, Ria Richards (Deputy Headteacher) and Jeanette Maynard (Headteacher).
We then heard from 3 of the children who stood up in front of all of the visitors and told us about the difference the school has made to their lives and how much they enjoy attending. We were all very impressed with them having the confidence to present to a large group of professionals!
Ria Richards, Deputy Headteacher at the school then talked us through the pupils outstanding progress and the bespoke curriculum pathways. We heard how some of the children, who may previously have struggled to even attend school were now working with a reading above the national average. She went on to say how every young person will leave with qualifications and that they have high expectations for their children.
Rico Tai-Richards, Deputy Chair of the London Youth Assembly spoke passionately about what he does. He encouraged the children to aim high and believe in themselves in order to follow in similar successful footsteps and also he talked about how impressed he was with the school environment and offer. Rico is truly a inspirational role model to the children and young people at Silverways.
After gathering for photographs and the cutting of a ceremonial ribbon marking the opening of the school there was then the opportunity for the attendees to buy beautiful jewellery and artwork which the children had made as part of the Enterprise curriculum. They are saving to buy a 3D printer so the money collected will be going towards buying one for future artistic creations. We have to say the art pieces were fantastic and once again we were impressed with the confidence with which the children served their customers.
It was a great morning and a wonderful opportunity to hear how the school supports children towards positive futures.
Feryal Clark, MP for Enfield North, said: "It was a real honour to attend the formal opening of Silverways School, which is already having a positive impact in our community.
"It is clear that the staff at Silverways go above and beyond to support the students and create a positive ethos which is at the heart of the school.
"I am sure Silverways will continue to go from strength, and I look forward to welcoming staff and pupils to Parliament in the near future."
