The children from Mill School Bury, part of Kedleston Group, were delighted to be visited by James Daly, MP for Bury North as they held a special celebratory day. The day was held to mark a group of the school’s children becoming published authors in two separate poetry anthologies from Young Writers.
Four children entered a poetry competition called This is Me and the school were thrilled when all of their contributions were selected to be included within that book. And recently they were joined in their status as published authors by 12 children whose work will be included in another Young Writers project called “Empowerment”, due for publication soon.
They were all thrilled to be presented with special certificates to mark their achievement by James, and the four whose work is already in print received copies of the book. Their achievements were cheered on by the proud team from Mill School Bury and their parents and loved ones.
Acting Headteacher Natalie Reardon said: “It was an honour to welcome James to the school and for him to share this very special day with the young people. This is such a fantastic achievement for these children, and we are unbelievably proud. He has very kindly offered to arrange a trip for the children to visit the Houses of Parliament, and everyone is beyond excited! It was a wonderful day and we can’t thank James enough for his support.”
During his visit to the school James also enjoyed a tour of the school and its state-of-the-art facilities which including its Sensory Garden, Horticultural area, A Quiet Place Therapy, Sanctuary Hub spaces and Rebound Therapy, Multi-Sensory and Immersive Reality Therapy spaces.
James said: “I thoroughly enjoyed visiting Mill School Bury, meeting the children and being part of the celebrations for this wonderful achievement. They should be very proud.”
