We are beaming with pride today after hearing about the wonderful Poppy, who attends our Arc Oakbridge School.
Poppy, age 10, wrote her poem after being inspired by an English lesson at school this year and her parents decided to enter the poem into the Tes Show Poetry Competition 2022.
Poppy’s poem was a hit, and she was awarded 3rd place in the primary learners category.
The icing on the cake? The competition judging panel was joined by Michael Rosen, who is one of Britain’s best-loved writers and performance poets for children and adults and has published in the region of 200 books for children and adults. Michael enjoyed the poem so much he even decided to read it aloud to a thrilled audience at the show, who were all really impressed with Poppy and her poem.
What an achievement. Congratulations Poppy, you are truly inspiring.
We caught up with Poppy’s mum who said: “Honestly, I can’t speak highly enough of Arc Oakbridge. Every single member of staff goes above and beyond for all the children. Poppy was unable to attend her mainstream school for almost 2 years due to her anxiety before she got her place at Oakbridge, and she now loves going to school and is happy and thriving. It’s literally a dream come true for our whole family!
A successful school placement is about showing a willingness to want the very best experiences for the child and making a commitment to do whatever it takes to make it work - this is exactly what the Oakbridge team do.
2 and a half years later and we still can’t get over how happy Poppy is about going to school!”
