Alongside the focus on personal development children at Silverways take part in a wide range of learning opportunities to prepare them for achieving a range of qualifications up to GCSEs. Children have opportunities to take part in relevant work experience placements as part of their careers and preparation for adulthood offer.
The school building has been carefully designed, with the specific needs of children with autism in mind, to be enabling. Classrooms are small and the learning environment is low-arousal; the school is decorated in muted colours selected from the autism colour pallet. The acoustics and lighting have been chosen to reduce sensory overwhelm for children with autism.
Silverways school aims to provide good educational outcomes and for children whose autistic needs have prevented them from reaching their potential in mainstream provision.
Headteacher Jeanette said: “At Silverways we value the holistic development of the child. Our aim is not only to educate, but also to develop the children’s social skills, self-confidence, character and resilience.
