Ross* is now making friends and building positive relationships. Previously he was unable to interact with others as his provision did not have the time and resources to adapt the environment to enable him to work alongside others through effective communication.
Ross joined Mill School in July and had a limited vocabulary bank, often becoming frustrated by his lack of ability to communicate with others. Through dedicated work with the Speech and Language Therapist, Ross now has a growing bank of vocabulary and is able to navigate the school day alongside his peers. He is increasingly using his visual timetable with Boardmaker signs and his PECS cards to make his needs and wants known to staff and peers throughout the day.
To support Ross’ development further his class teachers use visual timetables and blank level questioning which is pitched at his ability to allow him to interact with his class teacher and to share his ideas during lessons. Ross is now beginning to engage with adults and children outside of his classroom and his confidence has increased significantly.
