Our Silverways School is an independent special school which supports children and young people with autism and associated learning needs. The school is set in the heart of the community in Enfield, North London.
At Silverways School, they follow the National Curriculum, but the timetable has been designed to be flexible and personalised to meet the different need of the learners.
Many of the children will have missed a great deal of education, so the school develop specific programmes which address their individual needs and developmental stage as well as their specialist interests.
But what kind of additional enrichment opportunities are on offer at the school? The short answer is…plenty! The children and staff were all involved in designing the enrichment programme to make sure the skills of the staff and interests of the children were fully considered. There really is a broad range of sessions on offer, such as:
- Podcast/radio creation.
- Arts and crafts.
- Film making – filming and editing.
- Anime and Manga.
- Bike Maintenance.
- New age curling.
- Chess club.
- Formula 1 in schools.
We can’t wait to check in with some of these groups to find out more about what they are learning.
