Kurtis works at Wood Grove, a residential children’s home in Colchester. Since joining the team at Wood Grove, Kurtis has shown natural abilities in the role of support worker. He really pushes himself and always wants to learn more about the role and how he, and his work, can positively impact the lives of the children at the home, their families and his colleagues.
Kurtis will often support his colleagues by sharing his knowledge and learning, something that they greatly value as a team.
Since joining Wood Grove, Kurtis has built great relationships with the young people who live there. They truly enjoy spending time with him and his enthusiasm and dedication has helped them get involved in lots of different activities and experiences including bowling, playing football and going to the cinema.
He has also helped children develop their independence skills, with two of the children using public transport to travel to and from school. Another child has learned to cook meals which he could not do when he moved in.
Kurtis also supports all of the key workers at the home and will always help the management team them should they require it.
The nominees will find out if they have been successful at a special ceremony being held on October 21st at the ICC in Birmingham.
Wishing you the best of luck Kurtis, stay tuned for the results!
