June is Pride Month, when the world's LGBTQ+ communities come together and celebrate the freedom to be themselves. Most Pride events take place each year in June, although some cities hold their celebrations at other times of the year. Unfortunately many events will be unable to happen due to Covid restrictions this year, but that won't stop safer and smaller celebrations happening where possible.
Pride events welcome people from outside the LGBTQ+ community. In fact, this month is a fantastic opportunity to show support, to observe, listen and be educated.
The rainbow flag is a symbol of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer pride and LGBTQ+ social movements. The colours reflect the diversity of the community, as the flag is often used as a symbol of gay pride during LGBTQ+ rights marches.
