Since coming to Brookways, Anthony* has improved his resilience, increased his life-skills and confidence and gained exams successes thanks to his hard work and determination along with the support of the school’s professional team.
Anthony* is autistic and had previously struggled to cope with full-time education. He was supported by the school with a bespoke programme of education and support so he could be best prepared for exams, as well as give him the best opportunity to consistently interact with education and fully return to school.
He was supported by the team in areas including social interaction, developing life skills and confidence as well as academically, all on an outreach basis. It was a slow process but Anthony made great progress as he prepared to undertake maths and English qualifications. They also worked with him to mentally prepare to return to school to sit the exams.
Anthony engaged in every session, was ready to begin work when the team arrived and as such, gave himself the maximum potential for success. Through his hard work he was able to sit functional skills examinations, with help from lots of preparation, structured visuals and timetabling support. Anthony passed the exams and has the potential to gain more qualifications in the future.
Since passing his examinations Anthony has been working with the Brookways team to further develop his life skills and confidence including learning cooking and everyday skills.
We are proud to confirm that he has also now successfully gained an apprenticeship at a local golf club as grounds maintenance.
He is proof that when the mindset is right, anything is achievable. He is a credit to the school, and a credit to himself.
