Alex has developed extremely well into the role of support worker after a career in media. Alex works at High Peak in Disley, where the small care setting is part of a residential school.
It’s fair to say that it took a little time for Alex to find his feet in what was a completely new role and a new sector for him. He had previously worked in music and DJ-ing and had no experience of residential children’s homes.
However, in time he has been at High Peak, he has flourished. The senior care team at Kedleston Group describe Alex as ‘one of the most calming and creative care workers that we have had the privilege to work with’. He engages well with the children and allows them to develop at their own pace. His laid-back nature means the children find him very calming to be around, and they often actively seek him out to simply sit and ‘chill’ with when they’re seeking quiet time.
He quietly gets on with his role, ensuring that the children receive the best care possible and have opportunities to take part in a range of activities they enjoy. He can often be seen loading three bikes (much to the excitement of three very active youngsters!) into the back of the car to head off on another highly anticipated adventure!
Alex always wants to learn and develop, actively looking to improve his practice and the experience of the children he supports and to be the best and most supportive colleague he can be. He has just completed his Diploma, has fully embraced PACE (Playful, Accepting, Curious, and Empathetic child-centred approach to childcare and education) and actively seeks advice and opportunities to learn.
The nominees will find out if they have been successful at a special ceremony being held on October 21st at the ICC in Birmingham.
Wishing you the best of luck Alex, stay tuned for the results!
