Our High Peak School took part in a “wear it green” day this week to raise awareness of Mental Health as part of a national campaign. The children learnt that green is the ribbon colour for Mental Health Awareness and discussions took place around this topic.
Some of the children took part in writing a poem about what makes them happy, discussing and linking it to how these things promote a positive mental health for them.
All of the children also had the opportunity to take part in virtual workshops led by mental health ambassadors via a festival called ‘Now and Beyond’. The children in KS2 looked at how to support their friends, and what people may look like when they are feeing sad. The children in KS3 and 4 looked at breathing techniques and talked about a mental health toolkit. Everyone engaged well and even reflected on what had been learnt.
Within the lessons there has been a real focus on mental health at High Peak, including what things help and support with mental health, who to get support from, and gaining some insight into how people can feel isolated based on their disability.
What brilliant and important learning this week.
