“A month ago today we rolled out the red carpet to welcome in our first student. She was anxious, nervous and frightened. I have just spent the morning watching her direct ‘Tessie’ the Musical – the transformation is incredible. Everyone at the school was given a role in the play and she managed the whole cast team by herself....better than I do on a daily basis!!! Mum was invited as a guest and said “I just can’t believe that’s her, she has so much confidence now, where has it come from?”
We are learning so much from our child in Y3 who has limited speech and language. We have created a communications system consisting of Makaton, Board maker and object support communication. In his previous setting he only had a relationship with one member of staff, but now he communicates with everyone in the school. He engages in every lesson and is making a vast amount of progress in such a small space of time. He loves Rebound Therapy and reregulation interventions that focus on developing intensive communication.
The children are happy, they smile and are cheeky in their own way. They are proud to share their work and are going from strength to strength. We have a Mill School Ambassador, who is welcoming the new children into the school setting and helping the staff team to develop best practices.
Parents are supportive, reflective and report they enjoy the positive friendly approach. Our parents are great advocates for Mill School Bury and we are thankful of their support.
All Mill School Staff were employed based on their skill sets of motivating individuals for learning and life and they have not failed to do so! Their energy and enthusiasm is magnetising; they are extremely creative in their approach in building enabling relationships with children.
So sitting back today and reflecting on our journey at Mill School, I just cannot take this smile away from my face. I am beaming, just beaming and proud of all the wonderful memories the Mill School team have been able to create for each other, children and parents!
A magical start to a new school, well done team Mill School-Bury!”
Keep up the fantastic work team!
