The care and support offered by residential children’s home Vernon House is helping children improve their emotional health and well-being as well as make academic and social progress.
The home, which opened in October last year, recently had its first full Ofsted inspection and has been graded as Good in all areas. Inspectors said the team at Vernon had created a “homely environment” where children like to live and feel settled.
Vernon House is a safe and caring home for children and young people aged between nine and 17 years who may experience social, emotional and mental health difficulties.
Its team, inspectors said, develop “creative and engaging incentive plans which have been effective in encouraging children to learn new skills, build self-esteem and be safer.”
Inspectors found children living at Vernon are “developing positive and trusting relationships.”
The report also noted that children at Vernon House are supported with their individual health needs. Commenting on one child in particular they said, “staff carefully consider the impact of one child’s health needs on her daily life, and staff have put things in place to ensure that she is safe in and out of the home. This means that she is not limited by her disability.”
Gillian Miele, Kedleston Group Head of Social Care and Responsible Individual said: “We are delighted that the dedication and hard work of the team at Vernon House has been highlighted in this report. The home is already having a significantly positive impact on the lives of the children and young people who live there and their families and carers. We are all very proud.”
