Olsen House School provides a safe learning environment for children with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) with associated needs including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism (ASC) and moderate and specific learning difficulties (LD).
The school aims to prepare children and young people for the future through a modern curriculum that meets their individual needs and provides a nurturing environment where every young person is valued and supported.
Open Awards is an Awarding Organisation approved by Ofqual and an Access Validating Agency approved by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA). They provide Ofqual regulated qualifications and units across a range of sectors, QAA Access to Higher Education Diplomas and also offer bespoke quality endorsed units and flexible learning solutions.
Through the Open Awards scheme at Olsen House the children are able to take Functional Skills (Maths and English) exams every 6 weeks. This gives the school the opportunity to enter children and young people when they feel it is the right time, no other exam board offers this flexibility.
The exams can be taken either online or paper based which is fantastic benefit for those who may feel more comfortable being at home. The qualifications are also made up of individual units which means they can be built up around a child’s specific interests. For example the ICT Users Award allows children to specialise in Technician Skills, Spreadsheet Skills, Multi-Media Skills or even a mix of all 3.
Olsen House are very excited to be in partnerships with Open Awards and the new bespoke opportunities this means for the children.
