Parents at Arc Oakbridge have given their verdict on the school’s ethos, values and culture, and how these impact on their child.
As part of the annual Parent Survey completed this term, parents of children at the Birmingham school, which caters for boys and girls with autism between the ages of 7 and 16, were asked to rate the school on a range of factors, including the school’s impact on children’s emotional wellbeing, and its environment.
- Over 90% of parents said that Arc School Oakbridge supported their child to develop resilience, confidence and independence
- Over 90% of parents said that Arc Oakbridge helped their child to enjoy learning about themselves, others and the world around them
- Over 90% said their child was happy at school
- Over 95% said that Arc Oakridge values everyone equally and teaches pupils that difference is a positive, not a negative
- 95% said that the school teaches children to recognise the difference between right and wrong and apply this in their own lives
- Over 95% said that the school has a positive and respectful culture in which their child is well cared for
The school aims to:
- Give highly personalised education and care and therapy to autistic children
- Support trauma, creating a sense of belonging and safety
- Foster good relationships between pupils
- Set high aspirations for children
- Encourage a love of learning in every child
- Open doors to educational achievement and the wider world of employment
- Support families, who are often themselves traumatised by past experiences of education for their child
Parents were also asked to give written feedback to the school as part of the survey process.
One parent said:
“After my son’s previous experience of school, I never thought he would be happy in a school. Now Oakbridge has him enjoying school, learning happily and making progress.”
Another said:
“My child has been failed before. Not anymore. Oakbridge is the best school he has ever been to.”
