We had the pleasure of speaking with Amy, Registered Manager of our brand new Ivytree House specialist children’s home nestled in the heart of Colchester, Essex. Ivytree House provides a safe and caring home environment for children and young people aged between nine and 17 years who may experience social, emotional, and mental health difficulties.
The specialist model is designed to provide a unique, integrated approach to care, education, health, and mental health supported within a nurturing residential setting..
Amy said “We have individually decorated and dressed each young person's bedroom. When a young person moves in, they will have the opportunity to redecorate their bedroom however they would like it.
We have created a "who am I" staff file. This is for the child to look through and gives a snapshot of the staff who will be supporting them. It will put a name to a face prior to a child meeting them.
We would like to do a minimum of three visits prior to admission to ensure the child likes us and the home and feels comfortable in their decision that they will be happy with us.
The children can expect a light atmosphere around the home, lots of laughing and playfulness. We will have routines and boundaries we will implement such as bedtimes and internet times/access.
The children will be given the opportunity to try new activities. We want to be active and really encourage the young people to have positive experiences.
Around the local area we have things such as go karting, Alton water, Clacton, Mistley kids club, Colchester Zoo, Jimmy's farm and escape rooms. There will be lots of options to find what will fit for each young person.
We are looking forward to welcoming children in!”
