As we conclude our celebrations of World Autism Acceptance Week, we share some fantastic news from Fernways School where pupils have been showcasing their sporting prowess!
Five talented young people from the school recently showed off their exceptional skills while taking part the KS3 Panathlon competition and a marvellous taking second place and scooping the silver medal!
Panathlon is a national charity which gives young people with disabilities and special educational needs every year the opportunity to take part in competitive sport.
In preparation for the event, the children showed their dedication, resilience and teamwork, working hard to hone their skills. And it certainly paid off as they brought their medals and a coveted runners-up trophy back to Fernways.
And the pupil’s journey is not over. Their impressive performance has earned Fernways a spot in the highly anticipated Surrey County Panathlon Championship, where they will compete against other schools for the title of Surrey's best team.
Matthew Bennett, Fernways Head of Physical Education and Behaviour Lead, said: “Participating in events like these not only fosters camaraderie and sportsmanship but also promotes physical activity and healthy competition among our students.
“The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the experience, with it further fuelling their passion for sports and achievement. We couldn't be prouder of their accomplishments and look forward to cheering them on in the upcoming championship in Epsom on April 25th.”
