Andrea Merritt
Assistant Headteacher
I’m Mrs Merritt and I am the Assistant Head teacher at Hawley Woods School.
I have 35 years’ experience in education, 10 years in secondary mainstream and 25 years in specialist education as a teacher and leader.
At Hawley Woods School I am proud to lead on ‘Teaching and learning’ across the school. I strongly believe that every child is entitled to an education that provides them with the skills and knowledge to thrive as an independent adult. High quality teaching and learning is at the heart of achieving this.
Teaching is a fabulous career, and my absolute passion is facilitating and delivering continuous professional development to every teacher, regardless of experience, so that ‘human first’ evidence-based teaching is consistently delivered and sustained.
Pupils’ self confidence and self-esteem grow when they feel a sense of achievement. Seeing the joy it beings to each child when they make progress, socially and academically, continues to motivate and inspire me to continue giving my very best to every member of staff I train and each individual child I teach.
Hobbies – Swimming, running, cycling (triathlons!) Yoga.
Open water swimming holidays
Strengths – I lead by example. I build strong professional relationships and develop positive and collaborative teams.
Weaknesses (Development Points!) - No willpower when it comes to food! I like eating -especially Mrs Pope’s food here at Hawleyt Woods School.
