Lots of things happening at High Peak School this half term.
Our young people will be attending the bike-ability course (old cycling proficiency).
The school is developing a café that will be open to the public. Pupils who are going to be working in Peak Café are working towards their food hygiene certificate. The café will be a great place for our young people to get experience and to develop work skills.
We encourage our older students to gain work experience as part of preparing them for adult life. It’s great to see that one of our young people has just started work experience at a local primary school.
We are keen to inform our young people about situations that they may meet, both in their time with us and outside. In April some of our young people will be attending talks on internet safety and knife safety.
An academic route is not suitable for all of our young people. We seek to find alternatives to help young people keep engaged in training and education. This half term, one of our pupils is attending a construction college as an alternative provision
Our Nurture group is doing Masterchef Monday. They have to plan meals and then sell them. This involves developing a budget to buy their own ingredients and then setting a price to sell the meals. This is a great way of developing their literacy and numeracy skills in a real-life application.
The Nurture group is also participating in Grand Designs where they are being encouraged to THINK BIG. They have to plan and organise buying products that they can sell to the local community. This will build their numeracy and literacy skills.
