Our Leaways School London have recently taken part in the Wrap Up London campaign.

Coats and warm items are collected and then redistributed to local charities and community groups who directly offer support to people who are homeless, refugees, older people, people fleeing domestic violence, and those at risk through living in poverty.

For people facing crisis, the impact of receiving a coat can go further than just keeping warm. The coats collected by Wrap Up London offer a real opportunity for positive change. When a person at risk makes contact with a charity to collect a coat they receive practical help from that organisation and have the opportunity to accept ongoing support to change their situation long-term.

The children and young people from Leaways were asked who would like to volunteer for the Wrap Up London project and a team was selected to take charge, including two from the primary unit.

They leafletted the surrounding homes and businesses with instructions on how people can donate their unwanted coats, jumpers, scarves and hats. They also put up posters in the local Children's centre.

A week later the children and young people collected over 8 extra-large bags of coats and warm items from the Linden Children's centre. The school itself also managed to collect a further 9 bags filled with warm items ready to be donated.

Everyone from the school then helped to transport all the bags to the QE2 Centre in Westminster. Where they were gratefully received.

What a fantastic effort from the team at Leaways School London, well done for supporting such a wonderful campaign.
