The Mapesbury School curriculum offers core subjects as well as an enhanced level of creative and physical education.
There is a strong underlying focus on improving reading, literacy and numeracy skills alongside the development of personal and social skills and resilience, across all subjects.
We believe many children can surpass expectations when met with an appropriate curriculum which supports them to express themselves as well as reflect their interests, passion and energy levels.
Whether this is through performing arts, i-media, sports, outdoor education, design or cooking; the ceiling can be lifted for children both emotionally and academically to improve their long-term outcomes.
Mapesbury School delivers a differentiated 7 -16 years curriculum which is closely aligned with our pupils’ levels of ability, interests and aspirations. It is broad but relevant to individual needs. It is designed to have integrated therapeutic support as necessary and a focus on developing resilience and preparing pupils for the next stage in their lives. A combination of on and off-site learning is delivered as appropriate for each individual.
Social Skills, Enrichment and Wellbeing Opportunities
We value and strive to give all children a discrete curriculum of social and life skills in preparation for adulthood, to build a repertoire of functional skills to empower them within their communities as they grow.
Mapesbury School will provide enrichment and wellbeing opportunities through ‘Feel Good Friday’ sessions, trips and clubs to engage, build on and enhance learning. Enrichment opportunities provide memorable experiences and ensure there are no limits to the learning environment and a pupil’s curiosity to engage in a thirst for new experiences and knowledge.
Positive Outcomes
Our school will be nurturing and respectful of every child's unique profile and will work closely with children and parents to plan their journey through their educational career with us.
Our carefully planned curriculum and extra curricular offer will contribute towards the children’s EHCP outcomes, however each child will also have ringfenced time to work on EHCP outcomes with their staff and access therapeutic support to develop skills.
We are therefore committed to the following principles:
- To respect and value all individual pupils and staff, regardless of ability or needs.
- To provide the highest standards of care and education.
- To ensure safety, security and opportunities for success.
- To foster pupils’ social, moral, spiritual and cultural development.
- To create meaningful opportunities for all pupils to find their place in the world.
“We aspire for our pupils to achieve their best possible outcomes which are entwined with our behaviour system which celebrates Resilience, Respect, Responsibility"
Preparation for Next Steps
Our curriculum is designed to prepare pupils with the knowledge and skills to access the next phase of education, training or employment. The curriculum offer is geared towards developing confidence, and will deliver a broad programme of study across the key stages which leads to academic, vocational and relevant workplace qualifications tailored to the individual pupil.
