October is Sensory Processing Month! Kaye Crossley, Kedleston Group Lead Occupational Therapist has put together a bespoke timetable of sessions throughout the month which she will be leading with the team at Mill School Bury covering the 8 key sensory systems.
Yesterday’s session was focussing on the Auditory and Vestibular system.
With the use of canopy games and gym ball challenges, the children were able to practise both their language and listening skills in a novel and engaging way; they even learnt that silence can be fun when it helps you play the game!
Scooterboards and dance sacks were also introduced and caused much hilarity, especially when used by staff! These helped the children to understand how the vestibular system helps them to balance and to maintain their position in a range of new and exciting activities.
Join us next week, where the focus will be on Touch and Taste; Kaye is already busy thinking up some new challenges and games for everyone at Mill School Bury.
