Join us as we recognise some achievements from across Kedleston Group.
Today we are shining a spotlight on our Arc Oakbridge School in Birmingham. The school offers a calm, safe and nurturing place where young people with a primary need of autism and associated complex needs can learn and grow.
We caught up with Headteacher Jilly who told us…”It is my great privilege to be the Headteacher of Arc Oakbridge School and to lead a team of such caring, dedicated, and driven staff.
All of our pupils have an autism diagnosis, but each one is seen as an individual and we strive to help each and every one thrive and achieve as highly as they possibly can. We believe in breaking down barriers to learning and celebrating success in all areas whether this be academic, social and emotional, or personal development. We pride ourselves on the difference that we make to our pupils’ lives and the lives of their families, and we know that our pupils make a difference to our lives. At Arc Oakbridge School we believe in developing our staff as well as our curriculum and strive to continually improve in all that we do.
We welcome and attempt to respond to feedback wherever possible in order to ensure that our pupils get the best experience of education possible. In this way we feel that we are truly a learning community.”
We also have some wonderful feedback from the parents…
“I’ve got my son back.”
“I honestly can’t put into words how grateful I am that my son has all of you to support them.”
“I am so proud of him; he is doing amazing. Thank you all for your continued support and helping my son enjoy school, it has been years since I have seen him happy in school.”
“Thank you to all of you for your support and for nurturing my son.”
Great work Oakbridge, the data further goes to emphasis the successes…
Upon entry to our school, many of our pupils are working below age-related expectations. We know that children cannot learn unless they feel safe and once this is the case, our pupils make rapid progress, closing gaps in their learning. In the academic year 2022 to 2023, on average, pupils made an extra year’s progress in both Reading and an extra year’s progress in Writing.
Our pupils achieve excellent outcomes. Of our Year 11 leavers in July 2023:
- 75% achieved qualifications higher than predicted in English, (based on their end of Key Stage 3 outcomes).
- 75% achieved qualifications higher than predicted in science, (based on their end of Key Stage 3 outcomes).
- 100% of pupils secured places in their chosen post-16 provision.
