Following the most recent Ofsted inspection, our Wood Grove Children's Home in Colchester has been found to provide effective services that meet all the requirements for “Good”.
Wood Grove creates a safe and caring environment where they provide opportunities for children and young people to flourish. Through their therapeutic approach, children are supported to address their feelings and emotions in a safe and considerate way.
Their vision is for each child or young person to achieve positive outcomes in their personal, social and learning lives and, in this way, achieve their full potential. Ofsted could see that “staff focus on children’s positive behaviour and celebrate their achievements. The children respond to this approach well, and this has helped them to make positive choices.”
The inspectors also found that “all the children are attending education and doing well. One child has made significant progress and has achieved 100% attendance. He is engaged in learning and focused on achieving his GCSEs and finding a college place.”
The report notes that “staff help children to develop their independence skills” and that “the children enjoy a range of activities and a group holiday, which enables them to share new experiences and build positive relationships.”
Gillian Miele, Kedleston Group Head of Social Care and Responsible Individual said: “We are delighted that the dedication and hard work of the team at Wood Grove has been highlighted in this report. We are all very proud.”
Wood Grove works closely with all relevant stakeholders to ensure a consistent multi-agency approach to support young people to achieve their hopes and dreams.
