Barney decided to play the role of Headteacher today, looks like he is planning on leading the Social Stories training too!
Barney belongs to the Headteacher Nyree, he is a 2 year old Cockapoo and goes into Arc School Ansley every day.
He spends lots of time snuggled up to children, going for lovely walks, listening to them read, barking, chasing his ball and sometimes being naughty! Barney suffers with anxiety so the children have to really think about his needs and what he is communicating by his body language. This helps them learn valuable social communication and language skills without really knowing it! They have really helped Barney to overcome some of his fears and he loves it when they now give him tummy tickles.
Arc School Ansley school provides a safe learning environment for children and young people with educational, social and emotional needs associated with autism such as sensory processing difficulties, communication difficulties and high levels of anxiety.
Many of the young people have experienced significant difficulties in mainstream school as a result of their associated social, emotional and mental health difficulties. They support children and young people through specialist teaching and intervention including a range of therapeutic supports.
Barney is really missing the staff and the children at the moment and is becoming a bit lazy without all of the walking and play time!
