Proactively supporting positive transitions for the children moving on from Wings School Notts is essential.
We spoke to Assistant Head of Education and SENCO, Jack Linfitt to find out more.
“Our goal always is to make sure every single young person leaving Wings School Notts as they take their next step into education, work or training, has a positive and planned destination. As they move on from Year 11, or Years 12 or 13, it’s absolutely key that they know where they’re going to be living and what they are going to be doing - and all of the reassurance and confidence that brings with it.
“We always take a child-centred approach. We ask the children where they ideally would want to live and which courses, they want to do, or which training or employment opportunities they want to pursue.
“We then work to help them apply for those courses or placements and help them secure those. Having their preferred location for further education, training or work agreed well in advance can help the other professionals working with them outside of Wings Notts identify the best options for where they will live or be supported going forward.
“We have found this approach really helps everyone working with the young person, and is a source of confidence and certainty for the child. We are hugely aspirational for all our young people. We’re incredibly proud to say that they go on to carefully planned positive destinations including mainstream colleges.
“We always want the best for our young people, and we are proud that we were able to successfully advocate for them in this way and help them take their next steps towards success.”
