World Book Day is a registered charity on a mission to give every child and young person a book of their own. It’s also a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of reading. In fact, it’s the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.
Olsen House School had a wonderful day for World Book Day. Everyone dressed up and all of the lessons were themed around World Book Day and reading. The children enjoyed questioning staff about their costumes and guessing which books they were from.
In English the children worked on Dr Frankenstein’s body parts, in Science they made honeycomb and looked at Harry Potter themed potions, in Food Tech they used recipe books, in Maths they solved World Book Day number problems, in IT they designed engaging book covers, in Art there was creative story board making and in Humanities everyone looked at biographies and autobiographies.
There was a whole school World Book Day quiz which everyone thoroughly enjoyed participating in and even a treasure hunt to finish off the celebrations.
Wow, what a busy and fun day! There was a wonderful buzz of excitement around the school and lots of chatting about favourite books.
