As part of our Friday enrichment programme, our KS2 pupils have begun to hit the dry ski slopes in Rossendale attending their very first lesson of the season. The visit to Rossendale ski centre last Friday was a huge success with many more pupils keen to join future sessions.
Skiing is a sport which challenges you mentally, physically, socially, and emotionally. It is an additional opportunity for children to try something new which they might not be able to access outside of school, bringing equality to their learning. It can help to develop their organisational skills, as they will have to collect and organise their equipment. It develops independence, thinking skills and self-awareness to ensure they are always safe.
They will develop a skiing etiquette showing respectful behaviour whilst skiing. Our children can progress to higher levels and potentially take part in a school ski trip. Skiing is also an event in the Special Olympics which our children might aspire to take part in.
Looks a lot of fun too!
