This time last week we were having a great time at the NccTc.
We were really proud to have Ollie and Paul join us on the day to help deliver a fantastic workshop. The session was focussed on supporting young people with gender identity needs through care and was led by our highly experienced Clinical Psychologist, Dr Lucy Redstone.
We had great feedback from the workshop, and there was an added round of applause for Ollie who attended on the day to share their story and experiences from living in a Kedleston Group home.
The workshop explored supporting children and young people with identity needs. Lucy explained more about how through clinical approaches, children can be supported to develop a true sense of themselves and achieve their personal goals.
Children in our homes and schools have experienced things that impact their sense of self (identity), their ability to feel safe and how they trust others.
Our clinical model is influenced by attachment and trauma-specific models including the Attachment Regulation Competency (ARC) Framework (Blaustein and Kinniburgh, 2018) and Golding’s Pyramid of need (Golding, 2007).
The model provides:
-
-
-
- A safe and predictable environment.
- An alternative experience of being cared for.
- Caregivers who can attune to the child’s emotional experience.
- Provide co-regulation prior to independence.

What a fantastic day, sharing best practice on how to support our children and young people towards brighter futures. And what better way than to hear from a young person directly!
