World Poetry Day is an annual celebration of poetry and its vital role in promoting cultural expression, preserving language, and advancing creative thinking.
We thought we would share some poetry with you today, let’s head over to our Arc Oakbridge School in Birmingham.
Here is a poem written by Poppy (Year 6) following a lesson on the use of repetition in poetry.
Fear of love.
Fear of pain.
Fear of hate.
Fear of not saying what I want to say.
Fear of darkness.
Fear of love, it doesn’t always stay.
Fear of pressure.
Fear of pain.
Fear of people who hate my name.
Fear of losing.
Fear of love.
Fear of losing people that are special to my heart.
Fear of disappointing the ones up above.
Fear of negativity, which floods my brain.
Fear of emotions that are hard to tame.
Fear of people who drive me insane.
And that I would hurt them and I wouldn’t be the same…
Fear of anger.
Fear of red, once I see it, it floods my brain.
Fear of love.
Fear of pain.
Fear of hate and
Fear of change.
World Poetry Day was established by UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation) in 1999, with the aim of promoting the reading, writing, and teaching of poetry worldwide. The day is also intended to support linguistic diversity through poetry and to foster connections between different cultures and traditions. Since its establishment, World Poetry Day has been celebrated by poets and poetry enthusiasts around the world through a variety of events, readings, and initiatives.
