The change in *Jackie since they arrived at Kedleston Group’s Dovedale residential children’s home has been phenomenal. From a quiet, frightened and uncertain young person, they have blossomed into an older teenager with growing confidence and positive plans for the future.
When they arrived at the home, Jackie was very frightened of adults and deeply mistrustful. The team at Dovedale, which is graded as ‘outstanding’ by regulator Ofsted, worked with Jackie to help overcome their social anxieties and help them access additional therapeutic support to overcome additional difficulties. They supported Jackie consistently to help build their trust in adults and increase their feelings of safety and security.
With this foundation of stability and safety, Jackie has continued to mature and grow into a confident young person with clear ideas on what they would like to achieve in the future.
During their time at Dovedale, Jackie has attended mainstream school every day, completed their GCSEs and has secured a college placement. The plan is for Jackie to transition to semi-independent living.
