Some children and young people from our Mill School Bury were lucky enough to take an exciting day trip recently to Clitheroe in Lancashire.
The children, supported by staff, navigated the Community Rail Lancashire service together. This was an excellent opportunity to develop their independence skills, travel training skills, communication skills and have a lot of fun in the process.
When they arrived, they were treated to some delicious looking hot chocolates and explored the local area. They found a castle and a museum to look around, picking up plenty of interesting historical facts from the area in the process.
Here’s what the children had to say:
“I enjoyed the freedom to travel and explore independently.”
“I really enjoyed learning about the history of Clitheroe and the castle was very serene. The train was a great opportunity to socialise with friends.”
“I enjoyed playing Top Trumps on the train with friends.”
“We really enjoyed the train ride and visiting the train museum at the Castle.”
“We enjoyed spending time together outside of school, the cake and coffee were really nice!”
“It was a really good day, I enjoyed it!”
“I don’t have a favourite part as it was all really good!”
“I liked going out and being independent but also being allowed to take Nimbus on the train to help my anxieties.”
What a great opportunity.
